This Chokwe Pwo mask is thought to represent a young woman or ideal mother.  These masks are linked to the boy’s initiation school and are danced at the completion of the ceremonies.  The mask is in excellent condition, with a densely woven headdress, dark brown patina, heavy lidded eyes, filed teeth and a Portuguese cross form on the forehead.
