This Lega mask was used in teaching principals of morality during initiation ceremonies for young boys. During Lega Bwami society initiations, these Lega Lukwakongo masks were either hung on fences, piled in stacks with other masks or attached to the face or different parts of the dancer’s body. The mask is in very good condition with some abrasions.
