The Luba carved Janus headed figures that embodied the spiritual power of ancestors. These figures were used for protection from misfortune, to cure disease and to aid in fertility. This example displays male and female faces beneath a cap coiffure with a cavity for inserting magical materials. The neck and torso are elongated and end in a scepter like point.
