Chokwe figurative carved whistles were prestige objects belonging to hunters, war chiefs and other people of social rank. Whistles were used for messages during hunts, war or secret societies. This whistle is decorated with a Cikunza headdress associated with the Mukanda circumcision ritual with an ovoid body, flared mouthpiece and a projecting antelope horn that symbolizes power and virility.
