This Chokwe Pwo mask is thought to represent a young woman or ideal mother. These masks are linked to the boy’s initiation school and are danced at the completion of the ceremonies. The mask has an oval form with coffee-bean eyes, small nose, arching brows, mouth baring teeth with raised scarification and large braided fiber hairstyle atop a mud-packed coiffure, all in excellent condition.
