The Ogoni carvers of the Niger River Delta are known for their small human face masks called “elu.”  The Ogoni elu mask was danced during week-long celebrations of the yam harvest and funerals of members of the men’s association.  Our example has a naturalistic face with slit eyes, pointed nose, elaborate coiffure and articulated jaw.
