Chokwe figurative carved whistles were prestige objects belonging to hunters, war chiefs and other people of social rank.  Whistles were used for messages during hunts, war or secret societies.  This whistle represents a chief or ancestor with an ovoid body, horizontal mouthpiece and stylized headdress with a horn.
